Former swim instructor and swim team member Michelle Hughes is always looking for a challenge. As a child she loved watching the Ironman races on television and always remarked to her mother about how she would compete some day. In 2012 Michelle graduated college with a degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. As a graduation gift from her mother she visited the Big Island and once again remarked on her desire to compete in triathlons. In 2013 she made the leap into triathlons and was instantly hooked. For the 2014 season she went full throttle into it and came out with three 1st place finishes and a showing at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Mont-Tremblant. Michelle has no intention of stopping just there! In 2015 she has 4 Ironman 70.3 races already on the books along with numerous other races. She has plans to race in triathlons with Athletes in Tandem an organization for disabled athletes. Smaller runs and triathlons are also on the book but her ultimate goal for the 2015 season is to once again qualify and compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See.
